Summary details of module content:
This is a counselling skills module, which develops a knowledge of counselling skills, models and approaches used to help clients who are in crisis or trauma. It helps students build a knowledge base of physical and psychological reactions to various forms of abuse and trauma and develop support and referral networks and enables the student to convey the depth of professional care and counselling approach that a client in crisis requires without falling into inappropriate practice. The counselling skills approach is holistic, practical, comprehensive and builds on the student’s previous knowledge (Module: Foundation Counselling Skills or equivalent) of the counselling relationship and self-awareness. It is designed to further develop awareness and also taking care of self with adequate debriefing and supervision.

Assessment is knowledge based (Methodical Rationale Essay – 2500 words) and skills based (Case Study-Taped and Analysed

Duration
This is a two semster module and is studied off campus by distance learning.

The module is a SHE Level 3 module / SCQF Level 9 and is worth 30 credits. Academic accreditation of the module may be used towards the award of the GCU BSc/BSc (Hons.) Professional Development
