Summary details of module content:
This is a counselling skills module which provides an integration of clinical and pastoral counselling models supporting couples and families. An understanding is developed of family theories, dynamics and systems knowledge for counselling skills practice. This builds on the student’s previous knowledge (Module: Foundation Counselling Skills or equivalent) of the counselling relationship, self-awareness and introduces group awareness to enhance personal development and counselling skills practice.

Assessment strategy:
Assessment is knowledge based (Reflective Essay– 3000 words) and skills based (5 – Day Residential Counselling Skills Component).

Duration
This is a two semester module with a 5-Day Residential School in the second semester and is studied off campus by distance learning.

The module is a SHE Level 3 module / SCQF Level 9 and is worth 30 credits. Academic accreditation of the module may be used towards the award of the GCU BSc/BSc (Hons.) Professional Development
(including top-up for Diplomates) or for existing graduates as part of a graduate certificate or graduate diploma.
